Abstract

The violence applied to children is an important public health problem which can be seen in any population and any socioeconomical level. This condition is more disadvantageous for children who work because they must struggle through out their life. The aim of this study is to determine the exposure of Elaziğ Apprentice Educational Center students to physical violence and their attitudes toward violence. 555 students who must attend either theoretical or practical lessons in that center are included in that study, and a questionnaire is applied to, 476 of them who are directly observed. 430 (90, 3%) of the students included are male, 46 (9,7%) female and their mean age is 17, 5 ± 1, 5. Most of the male or female students are graduated from primary school. Lots of them (35, 3%) state that they spend the money earned for the needs of their house. 81,7% of students state they are expose to violence in any time of their life, on the other hand in one year period 5.5% of them expose to violence in family, and 8.4% of them expose to violence in working place at least one time. 37,4% of the students state also that their mother is beaten by their father. Only 10, 3% of the students said that they do not fight in their life, and also 51,9% of them state that violence can not be a solution for any problems, and 25.4 % said that they will beat their children due to their mistake in the future. In conclusion the rate of exposure to violence is so high in working children. An important part of them fight with their peer, which include physical violence. The prevalence of the child exploitation should be found out and the control and prevention of child exploitation must be done in a multidiscipliner fashion.
