Abstract

This study is aimed to determine the effectiveness of tobacco, alcohol, and drug dependence treatment program on problem-solving skills at the Alcohol and Substance Addiction Research Treatment and Education Center treated patients. This quasi-experimental study was conducted with 31 patients who were hospitalized in ASAREC clinic between July-October 2017. Data were collected on first day admission to hospital and on the day of discharge with personal information form and Problem-Solving Inventory. The mean age of the patients was 38.5±14.1. 51.6% of the patient were married, 45.2% were high school graduated, 67.7% were living with their family and 38.7% were unemployed. 16% had previously been inpatient treatment, 41.9% had attempted suicide before. There was a statistically significant difference between the scores of personal control subscale of patients before and after the Alcohol and Drug Dependence Treatment program (p<0.001) but there were no significant differences between the other subscales and total scores (p˃0.05). It was determined that Alcohol and Drug Dependence Treatment program was more effective on the patients’ awareness of problem solving in the personal control sub-scale.
