Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess validity and reliability of the Parental Support for Healthy Eating (PSHE) in Turkey, after relevant scales are translated to Turkish. Methods: In this study, the Turkish version of the PSHE scales were validated. The study using the scales was conducted after a seven-stage language equivalence study was carried out in six schools which were selected from three different socio-economic levels in Ankara province. In the study, 608 female and male students from the 4th grade of primary schools were included, who were in the 8-10 age group. The construct validity of the scale was tested by means of explanatory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. Spearman rho correlation coefficient was used as the reliability coefficient. The internal consistency of the scale was evaluated with Cronbach alpha coefficient. Results: PSHE scale was consisted of 5 items. For boys, Spearmans’s rho was obtained as 0.721 and Cronbach’s alpha was obtained as 0.741. Similarly, for girls Spearmans’s rho was computed 0.811 and Cronbach’s alpha was obtained as 0.804. Conclusion: The PSHE scales follow the original structure and Turkish adoption of these scales can be used as valid and reliable.
