Abstract

Background: The aim of this study was to determine the correlation between the coronal movement of the permanent tooth germ (PTG) and apical foramen (AF), and to determine whether the crown apex of PTG was a determining point regarding the canal working length in the primary molar teeth. Methods: 115 root canals of 30 primary molar teeth were divided into 3 groups according to the position of the PTG (Group 1: PTG was below the roots of primary molar, Group 2: PTG at the apical third of the roots of primary molar, Group 3: PTG at the middle third of the roots of primary molar) by using cone-beam computed tomography images. For each groups, correlation between coronal movement of the PTG and AF was investigated by using reference points of root apex of primary tooth, AF and crown apex of the PTG. Results: In Group 2, where the PTG was located at the apical third of the roots of primary tooth, the correlation was found between the coronal movement of the PTG and AF. However, this correlation was not found in Group 1 and 3, where the PTG was at below the roots of primary molar and middle third, respectively. Conclusion: It was concluded that the crown apex of the PTG could be used as a reference point in determining the canal working lenght in the case where the PTG was located in the apical third.

Özet

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, daimi diş jerminin koronale sürme hareketi ile süt dişi apikal açıklığının koronal yöndeki yer değiştirmesi arasındaki korelasyonun belirlenmesi ve daimi diş jermi kron apeksinin, süt molar dişlerde kanal çalışma boyu açısından belirleyici bir referans noktası olup olmayacağının araştırılmasıdır. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Konik ışınlı bilgisayarlı tomografi görüntüleri kullanılarak, 30 adet alt süt molar dişe ait 115 kök kanalı, daimi diş jerminin konumuna göre 3 gruba ayrılmıştır (Grup 1: Daimi diş jermi süt dişi köklerinin altında, Grup 2: köklerin apikal üçlüsünde, Grup 3: köklerin orta üçlüsünde). Her 3 grup için, daimi diş jerminin koronale sürme hareketi ile apikal açıklığın koronale yer değiştirmesi arasındaki korelasyon; süt dişi kök apeksi, apikal açıklık ve daimi diş jerminin kron apeksi referans noktaları kullanılarak araştırılmıştır. Bulgular: Daimi diş jerminin süt dişi köklerinin apikal üçlüsünde konumlandığı Grup 2’de diş jermi ile apikal açıklığın koronale yer değiştirmesinde korelasyon tespit edildiği (p<0,017), ancak daimi diş jerminin süt dişi köklerinin altında ve orta üçlüsünde bulunduğu Grup 1 ve 3’te bu korelasyonun sağlanmadığı bulgulanmıştır. Sonuç: Daimi diş jerminin, süt dişi köklerinin apikal üçlüsünde bulunduğu durumda, daimi diş jermi kron apeksinin kanal çalışma boyu belirlenmesinde referans noktası olarak kullanılabileceği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır
