Abstract

Aim: To compare the central corneal thickness (CCT) values in various types of open angle glaucoma and healthy individuals. Material and method: Eight hundred twenty two eyes of 259 glaucoma patients who were under follow-up in our Glaucoma Department and 152 healthy controls were included in the study with regard to their ophthalmic examination records of anterior and posterior segments. Intraocular pressures (IOP) were measured with Goldmann applanation tonometer, and CCT values were assessed with an ultrasonic pachimeter. Results: The glaucoma group consisted of 90 patients with primary open angle glaucoma (POAG), 76 with pseudoexfoliative glaucoma (PEG), 61 with normal tension glaucoma (NTG), 20 with ocular hypertension (OHT) and 12 cases with pigmentary glaucoma. Mean CCT values (microns) were recorded as, 539.3±23.1 in the control group, while 544.3±21.7 in the POAG group, 523.1±37.1 in PEG, 555.8±48.3 in NTG, 575.9±24.2 in OHT, and 576.4±37.4 in the pigmentary glaucoma group. Statistically significant differences in terms of CCT were detected between the healthy controls and all glaucoma groups except for the POAG group. CCTs in the PEG group were found to be significantly lower than all other groups. Nine cases in the OHT group (%45) turned out to be normotensive according to the correction formula [measured IOP + (545 - CCT) × 0.045]. A significant inverse correlation was found between C/D ratios and CCT in eyes with glaucoma. When individual groups were considered, the correlation was significant for the NTG group only. Conclusion: CCT varies in different types of open angle glaucoma, while there is an apperent increase in C/D ratios related with the decrease in CCT in eyes with glaucoma.

Özet

Amaç: Farklı açık açılı glokom tiplerinde ölçülen santral korneal kalınlık (SKK) değerlerinin sağlıklı bireylerle karşılaştırılması.Gereç ve Yöntem: Kliniğimizin Glokom Biriminde takip edilen 259 olgunun ve kontrolgru bunu oluşturan 152 sağlıklı bireyin toplKimlik Geliş Tarihi: 26.02.2009 Kabul Tarihi: 26.06.2009 * Araş. Gör., Hacettepe Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Göz Hasta - lıkları Ana Bilim Dalı, Ankara *** Prof.Dr., Hacettepe Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Göz Has ta lıkları Ana Bilim Dalı, Ankaraam 822 gözü, ön ve arka segment muayene kayıtlarıyla çalışmaya dahil edildi.
