Abstract

Objective: In this study, macular volume/ thickness, the retinal nerve fiber layer and ganglion cell complex thicknesses were compared among different phenotypes of Stargardt's macular dystrophy by using of optical coherence tomography. Material and Method: 60 eyes of 30 patients, diagnosed Stargardt's macular dystrophy between January 2013 - April 2016 were examined retrospectively. The age, gender, family history, anterior and posterior segment findings, intraocular pressures, refractive errors and axial lengths of the patients were recorded. Macular layers were examined by optical coherence tomography and recorded in excel format. Results: The mean age was 22.83 ± 3.42 (19-29) years. The mean logMAR visual acuity was 0.96 ± 0.26. There was a significant negative correlation between logMAR visual acuity and macular volume, macular thickness, the mean thickness of the ganglion cell complex and the mean thickness of the retinal nerve fiber layer (r = -0.55 p <0.001, r = -0.31 p = 0.016, r = -0.518 p <0.0001, and r = -0.551 p <0.001) Conclusion: In our study, atrophic changes in ganglion cell complex have been identified. Vision loss was consistent with both the outer and the inner retinal layer thinning.
