Abstract

POEMS syndrome is characterized with polyneuropathy, organomegaly, endocrinopathy, monoclonal gammopathy, and skin changes. Optic disc edema may accompany the disease. In this study, a 32-year-old man with POEMS syndrome having transient decrease of vision complaints was presented. The patient’s visual acuities were 9/10 bilaterally. Optic disk edema was observed during his ophthalmoscopic examination, and enlarged blind spots sign was determined in visual field tests. As ophthalmologic signs such as chronic optic disc edema may be observed in this rare systemic disease, POEMS syndrome should be involved in the differential diagnosis of optic disc edema.
