Abstract

Orbital cellulitis is an uncommon but potentially life-and vision-threatening disease. In this article, clinical findings and therapeutic results of 15 patients with orbital cellulitis seen over a period of five years were presented. The mean age of patients at presentation was 25 years (range 2-60 years). The onset of symp¬toms varied from 2 to 15 days. Chronic sinusitis was found as the predisposan factor in 7 patients. High doses of parenteral antibiotics controlled the infection in most of the cases. Only one patient with orbital abscess required surgical drainage. Our results suggest that prompt administration of effective antibiotics is the mainstay of preventing blindness and death from orbital cellulitis.
