Abstract

PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy of topical cyclosporine-A drops in the treatment of severe vernal keratoconjunctivitis. MATERIAL AND METHOD: 10 patients with severe vernal keratoconjunctivitis were involved into the study. The symptom severity scores and clinical findings of the patients were obtained at the beginning of the study, and following 4 weeks treatment with topical cyclosporine-A and compared with the pre-treatment results statistically. RESULTS: We observed significantly lower values in the post-treatment period in respect to all of symptomatic and clinical parameters. Most dramatic improvement was observed in corneal complications. CONCLUSION: Our study demonstrated that topical cyclosporine-A treatment is an effective alternative in the treatment of patients with severe vernal keratoconjunctivitis.

Özet

AMAÇ: Topikal mast hücresi stabilizatörleri ile yapışan tedaviye cevap vermeyen ağır vernal keratokonjonktivitli hastalarda topikal olarak kullanılan siklosporin-A tedavisinin etkinliğinin araştırılması GEREÇ VE YÖNTEM: 10 adet ağır vernal keratokonjonktivit vakası çalışma kapsamına alındı. Tedaviye başlanmadan önce hastaların semptomları ve klinik bulguları saptandı. Dört haftalık topikal siklosporin-A tedavisini takiben tekrarlanan değerlendirmeler istatistiksel olarak tedavi öncesi değerlerle karşılaştırıldı. BULGULAR: Bakılan her semptom ve klinik bulgu açısından hastaların tedavi sonrası anlamlı ölçüde düşük değerlere sahip oldukları tespit edildi. En belirgin iyileşme ise korneal tutulumda gözlendi. SONUÇ: Ağır vernal keratokonjonktivit olgularında topikal siklosporin-A damla tedavisinin etkin bir yöntem olduğu kanaatine varıldı.
