Takayasu's disease is a rare disorder in which inflammation of the aorta and its major branches leads to stenosis or occlusion of these arteries. The ophthalmologic features of Takayasu's disease tend to be late manifestations, and can include ischemia of the retina, choroid, and anterior segment. In this case report we present an eight-year-old patient who developed optic atrophy on the left side, pallid optic disc swelling on the right side, and bilateral ischemic retinal changes, and subsequently found to have Takayasu's disease.
