Abstract

Scar formation following strabismus surgery is one of the important factors that have adverse affect on the outcome. Especially in cases with adhesions and restriction of ocular movements, surgeries that are performed for correcting crossing eyes may be ineffective and adhesions related to surgery can decrease the expected success rate. In this case report, a patient with Mobius syndrome and fibrosis that developed after surgery as well as associated upper lid retraction due to seventh cranial nerve palsy is reported. The fibrosis that developed around the superior rectus muscle following the strabismus surgeries in our clinic, was disected and amniotic membrane was used to relax the retraction due to the scar tissue. During the follow-up there was improvement in downgaze and upper lid retraction. Amniotic membrane can be used in strabismus surgery in order to repair conjunctival defects and decrease scar formation.
