Abstract

Purpose: To investigate the effectiveness of ocular massage combined with subconjunctival 5-Fluorouracil injection in filtration bleb failure cases after trabeculectomy. Material and Methods: Twenty eyes of 19 patients with impending bleb failure after trabeculectomy, were retrospectively evaluated and included in the study. Subconjunctival 0.1 ml 5-Fluorouracil injection with ocular massage was performed. In the follow-up, intraocular pressure, number of medications and operation success rates were evaluated. Results: Avarage age of cases was; 59.4 years (30-89); 11 (%57.9 ) males, 8 (%42.1) females. Avarage time interval between trabeculectomy and 5-Fluorouracil injection was 181.9 days (20-580). Avarage number of injections was 5.55 (3-10). Follow up time was 6-24 months. After 12-months, outcome of 16 eyes were; complete success in 5 eyes (%31.3), partial success in 4 eyes (%25) and failure in 7 eyes (%43.8). In the follow-up only one eye needed retrabeculectomy. Complications were; corneal punctate epitheliopathy in 2 eyes, choroidal detachment and hypotonia in 1 eye, subconjunctival hemorrhage in one case taking coumadin. Conclusion: Intraocular pressure was under control in more than half of the cases. No statistically significant decrease in the number of medications was obtained.

Özet

Amaç: Trabekülektomi sonrasında kapanma eğilimi gösteren bleblerde göze yapılan masajla birlikte subkonjonktival 5-Florourasil enjeksiyonunun etkinliğinin araştırılması. Gereç ve Yöntem: Trabekülektomi operasyonu sonrasında bleblerinde kapanma eğilimi olan 19 hastanın 20 gözü geriye dönük incelenerek çalışmaya alındı. Subkonjonktival 0.1 ml 5-Florourasil enjeksiyonu göze yapılan masajla birlikte uygulandı. Takiplerde göz içi basıncı, kullanılan ilaç sayısı ve ameliyat başarı oranları incelendi. Bulgular: Olguların ortalama yaşı, 59.4 yıl (30-89); 11'i erkek (%57.9) ve 8 'i kadındı (%42.1).
