Abstract

Aim: The assesment of changes in stereopsis with age Material and Methods: One hundred and sixty subjects aged between 20 and 79 years with no ocular disease were divided into 6 groups by age. Ages of the groups were between 20-29 in l[h group, 30-39 in 2nd group, 40-49 in 3th group, 50-59 in 4th group, 60-69 in 5th group, 70-79 in (5th group. All had corrected visual acuity of at least 0.8 monocularly. Stereoacuity was evaluated by Randot test in contour and randomdot patern. Results: Mean age was 46.17±5.52 years. The results of test showed reduction of stereopsis with increasing age (p<0.05). Mean stereoacuity obtouch contour stereogram was 56.6 arc of second in the first group; 67.5 arcsec in second group; 128.3 arcsec in third group; 140.4 arcsec in fourth group; 194.5 arc-sec in fifth group; 505.62 arcsec in sixth group. Mean randomdot patern stereoacuity was 281.25 arc of second in the first group, 362.5 arcsec in second group, 377.9 arcsec in third group, 377.9 arcsec in fourth group, 414.06 arcsec in fifth group, 468.75 arcsec in sixth group. When contour stereogram values were analysed statistically, stereoacuity in 6A group was increased significantly compared to others (p— 0.001). There was no statistically significant difference in randomdot stereoacuity among groups (p>0.05). Conclusion: Stereoacuity declined slowly until seventh decade, statistically significant drop was seen in seventh decade. We tought that it might be related to decrease of cerebral function with aging.

1. grupta kontür stereogram değeri ortalama 56.66 ark/saniye, 2.grupta 67.5 ark/saniye, 3.grupta 128.37 ark/saniye, 4. grupta 140.4 ark/saniye, 5.grupta 194.5 ark/saniye, ö.grupta 505.62 ark/saniye idi. 1. grupta randomdot stereopsis değeri ortalama 281.25 ark/saniye, 2.grupta362.5 ark/saniye, 3.grupta 377.9 ark/saniye, 4.grupta 377.9 ark/saniye, 5.grupta 414.06 ark/saniye, 6. grupta 468.75 ark/saniye idi.
