Abstract

A 35-year-old man suffering from progressive visual loss, nyctalopia and photophobia was diagnosed as having chloroquine retinopathy with classical fundoscopic and angiographic findings. At the time, he had been on chloroquine for approximately 10 years for focal segmental glomerulosclerosis in his childhood years. He had no visual problem during treatment, and symptoms occurred many years after stopping the treatment. Slit lamp examination revealed bilateral bull’s eye maculopathy and peripheral pigmentary changes with bone spicules. Classical features of the disease were detected on optical coherence tomography, visual fields and fundus fluorescein angiograpy. With this case report, we wanted to present ophthalmological features as well as general characteristics of this rare disease.
