Abstract

Aim: Sebaceous gland carcinoma is a rare tumor arising from the epithelium of sebaceous glands. It is one of the most malignant skin tumors and may mimic benign conditions. We described clinical features and management of sebaceous gland carcinoma. Material and Method: 6 patients that were diagnosed as sebaceous gland carcinoma in our clinic between 1998 and 2010 were retrospectively studied with respect to demographic and clinical properties, location, treatment and the results. Results: The main age of the patients was 56.6±11.8 years. The site of tumor was upper eyelid in 3 cases and lower eyelid in 3 cases. The patients had undergone subtotal surgical and medical treatments with different diagnosis. For 3 patients with lower eyelid involvement eyelid reconstruction with Tenzel flap, for the patient with small upper eyelid tumor pentagonal excision and for the patient with large upper eyelid tumor eyelid reconstruction with Cutler Beard method were performed. Tarsoconjunctival graft with myocutaneous flap was performed for the last patient with large pedunculated lesion. The mean follow-up period was 48.5 months and there was no systemic metastasis or local recurrence. Conclusion: Because of the ability of sebaceous gland carcinoma to mimic other eyelid pathology and its rarity, suspicion is important.
