Abstract

Aim: To evaluate the intraocular pressure (IOP) lowering effect and adverse effects of travoprost 0.004% and timolol maleate 0.5% fixed combination (TTFC) in patients with Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma (POAG). Material and Method: In this prospective study, 96 eyes of 48 patients with the diagnosis of POAG who haven’t received any glaucoma medication were included. This group was treated with TTFC for 6 months. Results: Pre and 6th month IOP was;24.30±1.45 mmHg and 12.43±1.48 mmHg respectively. After 6 months of treatment the reduction of IOP was statistically significant. Compared with pre-treatment, at 3rd month diurnal variation was significantly lower (p<0.01). Systemic adverse effect was not observed in any patients. Mild and moderate conjunctival hyperemia was observed in 18 eyes, severe conjunctival hyperaemia was observed in one eye, ocular irritation was observed in 15 eyes, heterechromia in iris in 3 eyes, hypertrichosis observed in 12 eyes. Conclusion: TTFC provides effective IOP control with low rates of side effects besides offering the advantages of fixed combinations of anti-glaucomatous agents.
