Abstract

Cataract surgery in the congenital coloboma of eyes presents a high complication rate due to developmental anomalies in the sclera, uvea and zonular structure. Although decline in these risks has been noted due to the developments in phacoemulsification and capsulorhexis technique, visual results may not be satisfying after a successful cataract surgery because of the problems such as iris malformation, zonular defect and intraocular lens centralization. Phacoemulsification surgery was performed in the patient with bilateral iris coloboma, choroidal coloboma and cataract. During surgery or placement of intraocular lens, no diffi- culty was detected. Bilateral visual acuity after surgery was 20/20. Increased complication risk should be considered in phacoemulsification surgery in the pa- tient with ocular coloboma.
