Abstract

Aim: To compare the central foveal thickness, foveal volume and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thicknesses of amblyopic and sound eyes in adult patients with unilateral ani- sometropic amblyopia. Material and Method: In this prospective randomised study, adult patiens with unilateral anisometropic amblyopia were included. Central macular thickness, foveal volume and RNFL thickness of each eye was measured by OCT. Results were statistically analyzed between the amblyopic and fellow eyes. Results: 41 patients were included in the study. The average age of the patients was 34.0±13.2 (range 21 to 54) years and male /female ratio was 1:1. Mean best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 0.45±0.19 (range, 0.1 to 0.7) in the amblyopic eyes and 1.0±0.00 in the sound eyes. The average central macular thickness, foveal volume and peripapillary RNFL thickness in the sound eyes were 241.32±24.91μm, 0.19±0.02 mm3 ve 108.64±14.29μm re- spectively. The average central macular thickness, foveal volume and peripapillary RNFL thickness in the amblyopic eyes were 247.00±27.13μm, 0.19±0.02 mm3 ve 107.50±14.47 re- spectively. Conclusion: In our study, mean foveal volume (central-parafoveal-perifoveal), central foveal thickness and RNFL thickness did not differ significantly between the eyes of adult pa- tients with unilateral anisometropic amblyopia.
