Abstract

Aim: To evaluate the surgical success rate and complications of external dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) with single posterior flap and silicon tube entubation. Material and Method: Thirtynine patients who admitted to our clinic with the complaints of epiphora and chronic dacryocystitis and to whom external DCR with single posterior flap and silicon tube entubation was performed were included to the study. Preoperatively all patients underwent complete ophthalmologic examination and necessary consultations. Regular postoperative controls were performed on 1st, 3rd, 6th and 12th months. In every control, symptom inquiry, lacrimal irrigation, fluorescein dye disappearance test was performed, and if present complications were noted. Silicon tube was removed at the 6th month. Patency on irrigation of the lacrimal drainage system, negative dye disappearance test and symptomatic relief at the 6th and 12th month controls was accepted as surgical success. Results: Surgical success was 97.4%. Surgical failure was seen in only 1 patient who also had septum deviation. During postoperative follow up, in 3 (7,7%) patients premature silicone tube prolapse was seen, but among these patients with early tube removal no surgical failure was seen. Postoperative celulitis was seen in 1 (2.6%) patient and treated with 5 day intramuscular (IM) cefazolin sodium 1000 mg BID injection. Surgical failure was not seen in this patient. Conclusion: Single posterior flap external dacryocystorhinostomy and silicon tube entubation is a technique that can be successfully and safely performed

Ameliyat öncesi her hastaya tam oftalmolojik muayene yapıldı, gerekli konsültasyonlar yapıldı. Düzenli ameliyat sonrası kontroller 1, 3, 6 ve 12. aylarda yapıldı. Her kontrolde şikayet sorgulaması, lakrimal irrigasyon ve floresein boya kaybolma testi uygulandı, postoperatif komplikasyon varsa not edildi.
