Abstract

Aim: To evaluate the efficiency of atropin and optical penalization treatment in moderate amblyopia. Material and Method: Seventy five patients with moderate amblyopia were treated with atropin and optical penalization. Follow-up examinations were performed at 1, 3 and 6 months. Results: Mean visual acuity improved from baseline by 3.4 lines in strabismic amlyopes;3 lines in anisometropic amblyopes; 2.5 lines in mixed amblyopes at sixth months (p=0.024). Improvement of visual acuity was not related to age of patients (p=0.127). There was no statistically significant improvement in stereoacuity in all groups(p=0.107). Significant difference was found in fixation preference of amblyopic eye before and after treatment (p=0.036). Conclusions: Atropin and optical penalization treatment was found to useful for uncomplient patient with patching treatment in moderate amblyopia.
