Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the visual and keratometric results as well as anterior and posterior elevation changes using a Scheimpflug camera after accelerated corneal collagen crosslinking in patients with progressive keratoconus Material and Method: Twenty-eight eyes of 16 patiens who underwent corneal collagen crosslinking treatment for keratoconus were retrospectively evaluated. Before and after treatment all patients underwent an ophthalmic examination including; uncorrected and best corrected visual acuity, Snellen acuity, mean keratometry (Kmean), central corneal thickness, anterior and posterior elevation values. All data were compared statistically. Results: The mean age of 9 male (56.25%) and 7 female (43.75%) patients were 22.39±4.69 years. The mean best corrected visual acuity was 0.62±0.17 before the treatment and 0.64±0.17 at 1 year (p=0,234). At 1 year, 2 eyes (12.5%) gained 2 line, 2 eyes (12.5%) gained 1 line and 2 eye (12.5%) loss 1 line. Kmean was 50.57±2.58 diopter (D) before treatment and 50.03±3.10 D at 1 year (p=0.387). Anterior elevation was 32.64±16.11 micron before treatment and 31.89±16.20 micron at 1 year (p=0.398). The mean posterior elevation was 66.89±31.59 microns before treatment and 75.78±33.55 microns at 1 year (p<0.001). Conclusion: Althougth there was no statistically significant difference in terms of visual and keratometric outcomes in keratoconus patients after accelerated corneal collagen crosslinking, we observed that progression continued in posterior elevation values.
