Abstract

Eyelashes can be observed in unusual anatomical locations after falling out of their follicles. We report a case with a subconjunctivally located cilia because of its rare incidence and the accompanying ocular symptoms. A 64-year-old woman admitted to our outpatients clinic with an injection on the conjunctiva of her left eye. Slit-lamp examination revealed a cilium under the left nasal bulbar conjunctiva. The patient was complaining about redness, sting, and discomfort of left eye for 3 days and did not realize the cilia. She did not have any history of an ocular surgery or trauma. Surgical removal of the cilia was offered but she did not accept. Patient was followed by the arrangement of the medical treatment. In this case, we aimed to emphasise the importance of being careful and aware about the presence of foreign bodies and biomicroscopical examination of the cases with the complaint of redness, discomfort and sting, which are commonly seen in ophthalmology practice.

Özet

Kirpikler foliküllerinden dışarı düştükten sonra sıradışı anatomik yerlerde görülebilirler. Çalışmamızda konjonktiva altında kirpik olgusu, nadir görülmesi ve eşlik eden göz semptomları açısından sunulmaktadır. Altmışdört yaşında kadın hasta sol gözde kanlanma şikayetiyle polikliğimize başvurdu. Biyomikroskopik muayenede sol gözde nazal bulber konjontiva altında kirpik olduğu gözlendi. Hasta 3 gündür devam edensol gözde kızarıklık, batma ve rahatsızlık hissinden yakınıyordu ve kirpik olduğunu fark etmediğini belirtti. Herhangi bir göz cerrahisi veyatravma öyküsü yoktu. Kirpiğin cerrahi çıkarılması önerildi ancak hasta kabul etmedi. Medikal tedavisi düzenlenerek takibe alındı. Bu olguda, oftalmoloji pratiğinde çok sık görülen kızarıklık, rahatsızlık hissi, batma gibi şikayetlerle polikliniğe başvuran hastalarda yabancı cisim açısından dikkatli olunmasının ve biyomikroskopik muayenenin önemini vurgulamak hedeflenmiştir
