Abstract

The best corrected visual acuity of the left eye was in the level of hand movements in an eighty-year-old female patient who complained of decreased visual acuity in the left eye and morgagnian cataract was detected in the left eye with biomicroscopic anterior segment examination. There was no lens material in the lower temporal area in the left eye and that the posterior capsule was not intact in this region. Ultrasonographic examination revealed hyperechogenicity in the left eye, and a portion of the lens fell into the vitreous from the spontaneously ruptured capsuler area. Pars plana vitrectomy was applied and intraocular lens was implanted in the ciliary sulcus of the left eye of the pa- tient after cleaning the dislocated nuclei and fragments. In the first postoperative month, visual acuity in the left eye increased to 0.7 level. Morgagnian cataracts are no longer common. We should keep in mind that other ophthalmologic pathologies, especially capsular pathologies, may be accompanied. Patients’ visual prognosis can be quite satisfactory with an appropriate approach.
