Abstract

Objective: To compare central corneal thickness measurements in healthy adults with Scheimpflug-Placido topography, autorefractometry and ultrasonic pachymetry. Material and Method: The central corneal thickness measurements from all three methods obtained from 196 eyes of 98 healthy participants aged between 18-55 years were included in the study. Central corneal thickness measurements were performed by topography, autorefractometry and ultrasonic pachymetry devices, respectively. Spearman correlation analysis and paired t-test were used to evaluated the relationship between the results obtained from the devices. Results: Mean central corneal thickness value was 522.58 ± 45.142 µm with topography, 520.93 ± 43.422 µm with autorefractometry and 531.13 ± 45.333 µm with ultrasonic pachymetry. The mean central corneal thickness values obtained by ultrasonic pachymetry were significantly higher than the mean central corneal thickness values obtained by topography and autorefractometry (p=0.01). In the Spearman correlation analysis between the methods, a strong positive correlation was found between all methods in pairs. Conclusion: Central corneal thickness measurements may vary depending on the model of the devices and the difference of applicators. In our study, central corneal thickness values were higher in ultrasonic pachymetry measurements. Although there is a statistically significant difference between topography and autorefractometry and ultrasound pachymetry, there is a strong positive correlation in correlation analysis.
