Abstract

Objective: To compare the efficacy of samfilcon A and lotrafilcon B silicone hydrogel bandage contact lenses on postoperative pain control after photorefractive keratectomy. Material and Method: Sixty-six eyes of 33 patients who underwent photorefractive keratectomy were included in this clinical trial study. In the end of the surgery, the samfilcon A was used in one eye and the lotrafilcon B was used in the fellow eye randomly. Pain, epiphora, photophobia, and foreign body sensation were assessed on the first and third postoperative day after surgery using visual analogue scale (0=no ocular pain and discomfort; 10=highest level of ocular pain and discomfort). Results: The mean pain scores were 2.79±2.34 and 5.36±2.60 on the first day (p 0.05). Conclusions: Samfilcon A was found to be significantly useful in pain control. Also, the patients using the samfilcon A lens showed less foreign body sensation and pain on the first and third days postoperatively.

Özet

Amaç: Fotorefraktif keratektomi sonrası postoperatif ağrı kontrolünde samfilcon A ve lotrafilcon B silikon hidrojel bandaj kontakt lenslerinin etkinliklerini karşılaştırmak.
