Abstract

Hemorrhagic disease of newborn occurs in vitamin K deficiency. The condition is grouped into three cate- gories; early onset, classic disease and late onset. In case of deficiencies in vitamin K dependent factors, patients may suffer from bleeding that tends to be nasal, umblical, urogenital, gastrointestinal and int- racranial hemorrhage which causes serious morbidity and mortalitiy. Intramuscular 1 mg vitamin K proph- ylaxies which is administered in newborn period pro- tects early onset and classic hemorrhagic disease but is not sufficient in preventing the late onset disea- se and to emphasize this fact, we present here two infants who had late onset intracranial hemorrhage even though they had single dose vitamin K proph- ylaxis at birth.

Özet

Yenidoğanın hemorajik hastalığı K vitamini eksikli- ğine bağlı olarak oluşur. Erken, klasik ve geç tip ola- rak üçe ayrılır. K vitaminine bağlı faktörlerin eksik- liğinde hastalar ciddi morbidite ve mortaliteye yol açan nazal, umblikal, ürogenital, gastrointestinal ve intrakraniyal kanamalarla başvurabilir. Doğum- da yapılan tek doz 1 mg intramusküler K vitamini genellikle yenidoğanın erken ve klasik tip hemo- rajik hastalığına karşı etkili olsa da, geç hemorajik hastalığı önlemekte yetersiz kalabilmektedir. Bu makalede doğumda tek doz K vitamini profilak- sisi yapılmasına rağmen, geç hemorajik hastalık ge- lişen iki olgu, konuyu gündeme getirmek amacıyla sunulmuştur.
