Abstract

Benign acute childhood myositis, is a clinical condition affecting school-aged children, is characterized by symmetrical calf pain, sudden onset of refusal to walk and spontaneously recovery and is accompanied by elevated serum creatine phosphokinase (CPK). The aim of our study was to discuss our benign acute myositis data. We retrospectively evaluated 65 cases who were diagnosed as benign acute childhood myositis between January 2016 and January 2018. 65 cases, 47 boys and 18 girls were included in the study. The mean serum CPK was measured as 3075 U/L (min: 400, maximum: 19790). Symptoms and signs of improvement during clinical follow-up began within 24-48 hours for all cases and were completed within 4 days at the latest. Serum CPK values began to fall after the second day and reached normal values in all patients after 10 days. Even though childhood benign acute myositis appears to be a worrying condition due to the sudden and rapid onset of symptoms; is a benign condition because of rapid and spontaneous recovery.
