Abstract

Tailgut cyst is a rare pathology which originates from the embrionic tailgut and is located in the sacrococcygeal area.. It is extremely rare in the neonatal period. This cystic lesion is usually confused with other cystic pathologies of sacrococcygeal region. We report a newborn whom had a cystic swelling extending from sacrococcygeal region to right gluteus and had a preliminary diagnosis of sacroccocygeal teratoma. The mass was completely resected with the coccyx and after the operation was diagnosed as a tailgut cyst.
