Abstract

Hyperandrogenism is the increase in production and/or the augmentation of the activity of androgens. 10-20% of women suffer from hyperandrogenism in a period of their lives. Ovary and adrenal glands are the most important sources of androgen in women. One of the most important issue in the assessment of hyperandrogenism in women is the determination of ovarian disorders. Main symptoms of hyperandrogenism in women are masculine somatic variations. Hyperandrogenism can be suspected by the presense of hirsutism and acne clinically. Also leads to menstrual disorders by effecting ovulatory function. This text is a review of pathophysiology, clinical diagnosis and the treatment strategies of hyperandrogenism.
