Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Abnormal uterin bleeding is seen frequently in patients attending to gynecology clinics. Dilatation and curettage is used as a gold standart method for diagnosis. However dilatation and curettage is an invasive method. The role of noninvasive methods in the diagnosis has been investigated. For this purpose, we aimed to establish the value of sonohisterography in the diagnosis of endometrial pathologies. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The patients attending to The Clinics of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Akdeniz University School of Medicine because of abnormal uterine bleeding were enrolled in this study. Transvaginal sonography was performed in 28 patients whose age were above 35 and informed our study. After vaginal and cervical iodinization uterine catheter was inserted through the cervics for histerosonographic examination. Uterine cavity was visualısed with isotonic NaCl solution. McNemar test was used for statistical analysis and p<0.05 was accepted to be statistical significant. RESULTS: Mean age was 44.2(35-60). The most type of pathology detected in all methods was endometrial polyp. Sonohisterographyc findigs were correlated well with histeroscopic and hystopathologic results. CONCLUSION: Histerosonography as a noninvasive method is an effective method to detect benign endometrial pathologies.
