Abstract

OBJECTIVE: In hypertensive patients determined in emergency service, it's aimed to compare the relationship between uric acide levels and hypertension severity. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study group consisted of 150 cases, 100 of whom had hypertension and 50 of whom had normotensive. Hypertensive patients were divided into two distinguished groups as hypertensive crisis group (n=50) and hypertension group (n=50). Hypertensive group consisted the patients who haven't had any treatment for the last 4 weeks or those who have just had diagnosis. Variance analysis and tukey test were used in the statistical analysis. RESULTS: When they were compared in terms of age and sex, the difference between the groups was found insignificant (p>0.05). The difference between hypertensive crisis group, and hypertension group, control group, when the groups were analysed according to their uric acide level, was found significant (p<0.05). The difference between hypertensive group and control group was found insignificant (p>0.05). CONCLUSION: There is quite significant relationship between uric acide levels and hypertension severity. Uric acide level should be monitored in such patients. On the other hand, hyperuricemic patients should be followed-up for the risk of hypertension development.
