Abstract

Epidermolysis bullosa is the name of a group of diseases all having bullous lesions clinically but differs genetically. Bullous lesions may appear spontaneously or following minor trauma. In this report two cases of epidermolysis bullosa, diagnosed in the neonatal period were presented. The first case was a female baby who was referred to neonatology unit immediately after birth in the obstetric clinic of our hospital. She had multiple bullous lesions on her skin. Despite appropriate skin care and antibiotic prophylaxis, she died on the 26th day of her life with sepsis and disseminated intravascular coagulation. The second case was referred on the third day of his life. Besides bullae on the skin, there were erythematous lesions of the oral mucosa. Appropiate skin care and antibiotic prophylaxis were applied. He was discharged from hospital after the bullae disappeared. He was seven months old now. Epidermolysis bullosa is a disease with mild and severe types. Whatever the type, the most important point in the management is preventing patients from infections. In the pregnant woman with a positive family history of epidermolysis bullosa, prenatal diagnosis can be considered.
