Abstract

Presently, solid organ transplantation has become the treatment of choice for patients with end-stage disease and survival rates have improved. However, the growing shortage of available organ donors remains the major problem in solid organ transplantation. It is obvious that the donation process needs organization and standardization. To meet this organizational demand, transplant coordinating offices and specially educated professionals are required. In many developed countries transplant coordination has become a highly specialized profession. Long term success of the relatively new Turkish model of transplant coordination will be seen in near future.
