Abstract

Objective: In this study, it is aimed to define the emergent cranial surgery in terms of the reason of occurrance, diagnosis, prognostic factors and results. Material and Method: In this defining type of research, 153 cases treated in Dr. M.U. Emergent Traumatology Education and Research Hospital Neurosurgery Clinique were statistically analysed in accordance with trauma etiology, age, gender, application Glasgow Coma Score mortality ratio, location and established pathology between January 1996 and December 2003. Results: 76% (116) of the 153 cases who were applied emergent cranial operation were male, 24% (37) were women. The most frequent etiological reasons were 52% (80) traffic accident, 34% (53) falls, 14% (20) direct trauma to the head. 45% (69) was diagnosedas epidural haematomas, 26% (40) was diagnosedas depression fractures and 3% (5) was diagnosedas intracerebral haematomas. A meaningful statistical difference was found in the comparison of the diagnosis regarding gender (p=0.012) age group (p=0.0282) and Glasgow Coma Score (p=0.0001). Conclusion: In order to prevent cranial traumas, studies should be made to minimize the traffic accidents which are one of the frequent reasons. The most essential action to be taken is the triage after the accident and it is of utmost importance to establish the communication among the healthy institutions.

Tanıların %45'i (69) epidural hematom,%26'sı (40) akut subdural hematom, %25.5'i (39) depresyon fraktürü ve %3'ü (5) intraserebral hematomdu.
