Abstract

Hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia is a hereditary disease characterized by a triad of hypotrichosis, hypohidrosis, and hypodontia. The prevalence in the population has been reported as 1:10.000-1:100.000 male live births. A male infant who was born to nonconsanguineous parents was admitted with complaints of recurrent episodes of fever, restlessness, dry and erythematous skin and epistaxis. On physical examination, he had dry and erythematous skin, periorbital wrinkling and pigmentation, fine and sparse hair, broad forehead, low-set ears, and no tears. Laboratory investigations were in normal limits. Skin biopsy was compatible with hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia. We present this case for its rarity and that it should be considered among causes of fever of unknown origin.
