Abstract

In this research, it is aimed to investigate the effect of science centers on student motivation and science achievement as an out-of-school learning environment. The study was carried out with 74 students in the third grade of an elementary school in Osmangazi district of Bursa province. This study was conducted in a pre-test-post-test control group model that was not equalized from the semi-trial models. In this context, students in the experimental group were provided with the opportunity to use experimental facilities related to science in conjunction with guides in the events held at the Science and Technology Center. The students in the control group continued education and training in their schools. The data of the research were obtained through “Science Success Test” and “Science Center Opinion Survey". As a result of the research, there was no significant difference in academic success among the students in the control group of students and the experimental group participating in the activities in Science and Technology Center. However, it has been determined that science centers have positive effects on students' motivation, and experimental setups and practices in the center are perceived as effective and enjoyable by primary school third year students.
