Abstract

Even though they have a lot of side effects, corticosteroids have been in a many treatment protocols in the treatment of different kinds of disease. The most important side effect of steroids, especially in immun-comprimised patients, is still infections. Dose of steroids, the application way and the duration are the most predisposing effects in the steroid-related infections. Parenteral use, long term use and high dosage have more potentiality in the risk of infection than low dose, short term and topical or inhaler usage. Although skin infections, pneumonia and otitis media have been the most frequent infections, less often, it is also possible to diagnose severe pneumocystitis carinii or aspergillus pneumonia and intra-abdominal abscess. It is very rare to detect intra-cerebral multiple abscesses in the patients using steroids. We, here, present a case with the multiple cerebral abscesses developed under the steroid treatment due to immune thrombocytopenia.
