Abstract

Objective: To investigate the prevalance of Parvovirus B19 which has a risk of transplacental transmission to foetus among pregnant women with a risk of abortion applying to our hospital. Material and Method: Seventy nine sera and 33 amniotic fluid samples of 112 pregnant women applying to our Obstetrics and Gynecology autpatient for routine control with ultrasound examination had been detected for Parvovirus B19 with real-time PCR method. Results: Seven of 112 pregnant women had abnormal ultrasound findings: one hidrops, two oligohidroamnios and in utero growth retardation, one polihidroamnios and in utero growth retardation, one hiperechogenic bowel and two corioid phlexus cysts. No positive result had been found by real-time PCR method in favour of Parvovirus B19. Conclusion: The prevalance of Parvovirus B19 infection durind pregnancy is 3-4%. The risk of transplacental transmission to foetus is 25-33%. The study of maternal sera and amniotic fluid by real-time PCR method is more expressive than serological methods.
