Abstract

Thyroid paragangliomas are very rare tumors. Because they contain arteriovenous shunts, paragangliomas have hypervascular structure. Definitive diagnosis of thyroid paraganglioma can be established by immunohistochemical staining of the material. A 34-year-old female patient presented with complaints of painless and slowly growing swelling on the left middle area of the neck for 16 years. The patient underwent left total lobectomy. In histological analysis, positive staining for chromogranin, neuron-specific enolase and synaptophysin and negative staining for cytokeratin were observed. As a result, the patient was diagnosed with paraganglioma.

Özet

Tiroid dokusu içinde saptanan paraganglioma olguları oldukça nadirdir. İçerdikleri pek çok arteriovenöz shuntlar sayesinde paragangliomalar, hipervasküler bir yapıya sahiptir. Kesin tanısı cerrahi materyalin bir takım immünohistokimyasal boyamalar neticesinde konulmaktadır. Olgu, 34 yaşında bayan hasta, yaklaşık 16 yıldır boyun sol orta kısımda, yavaş yavaş büyüdüğü ifade edilen ağrısız şişlik şikayeti mevcut. Hastaya sol total lobektomi uygulandı. Patolojik değerlendirmede kromogranin, nöron-spesifik enolaz, sinaptofizin ile pozitif boyanma, sitokeratin ile negatif boyanma izlendi. Sonuç olarak paraganglioma tanısı kondu.
