Abstract

The early diagnosis of diabetes mellitus which has a long preclinic procedure has significant importance regarding treatment and prevention of complications. The objective of the study is to determine the clinical and metabolic characteristics of the patients who are recently diagnosed as having type H diabetes mellitus and to investigate the demografic characteristics of these patients. 80 patients with type II diabetes mellitus are included in our study. Demographic characteristics are questioned in these patients and routine biochemical and physical examinations have been carried out. Apart from these, creatinine clearance test in the urine of 24 hours, and microalbuminuria test have been carried out, and HbgA1c, starvation insulin, and C peptide levels are established in the blood. Examination of ocular fundi and neurologic examinations have been carried out and their EMGs have been obtained. It has been observed in our study that the patients who are recently diagnosed as having type H DM in our country, have experienced a long period before being diagnosed, ant that they have end-organ damages and complications when they are at last diagnosed.
