Abstract

Forestier's disease (diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis) is characterized by extensive spinal osteophy te formation and endochondral ossification of paravertebral ligaments and muscles . Diffuse idiopathic hyperosteosis is very rare in the upper cervical region and it is generally a diffuse systemic condition which is most probably related to abnormal bone cell activity reflecting the influence of metabolic factors that lead to new bone deposition . The diagnosis may be established using plain radiographs of the cervical spine and computed tomography. We present a case ofdysphagia due to extensive osteophytes at C2 level causing narrowing of the pharynx. The patient was treated surgically via a transoral transpharyngeal route with excellent results .This subject was discussed.
