Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to determine the most appropriate type of drinking water for households in Iğdır province. In order to achieve this aim, 400 individuals between the ages of 17-75 living in the Central District of Iğdır province were interviewed face-to-face. In the study, socio - economic and demographic questions were asked about consumers and their families and questions about drinking and drinking water consumption. The analytical hierarchy process (AHS) method was used to determine the most appropriate type of drinking water by using simple random sampling method based on Main mass ratios in determining the number of surveys. According to the results of the study, 38% of households used bottled water, 35% used mains water with purification device, 13% used fountain or Spring Water, 13% used municipal mains water without purification device and 1% used spring water with purification device as drinking water. The average monthly water bill for households is £ 40.14 and the spend on bottled water is £ 86.42. The amount of water drank per person per day is 2.27 L and 1.03 L is bottled water. 32.36% of households preferred bottled water, 27.56% treated water, 21.27% preferred spring water such as fountains and Wells, and 18.80% preferred municipal mains water according to price, hygiene, mineral, taste and transportation criteria. It is thought that the results of this study will guide the municipal authorities that supply drinking and use water to Igdir province and the companies that market drinking water treatment equipment and bottled water.
