Objective & Hypothesis:OBJECTIVES: Our main objectives were to determine the effects of dydrogesteron and medroxyprogesteron asetat (MPA) added to the transdermal hormon replacement therapy (HRT), on the levels of reproductive hormones and serum lipids in postmenopausal period.
📊
Key Findings & Data:RESULTS: When the levels obtained after a 9 months HRT period are compared to the starting levels within each group, significant decreases in FSH and in LH values were found, whereas E2 and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) levels were increased in both groups (p<0.05).

Abstract

OBJECTIVES: Our main objectives were to determine the effects of dydrogesteron and medroxyprogesteron asetat (MPA) added to the transdermal hormon replacement therapy (HRT), on the levels of reproductive hormones and serum lipids in postmenopausal period. STUDY DESIGN: Subjects were randomly divided into two groups which received transdermal estradiol and oral MPA or dydrogesteron in Group I or in Group II respectively, in a cyclic treatment protocol. Student's t test was used for the statistical analyses. RESULTS: When the levels obtained after a 9 months HRT period are compared to the starting levels within each group, significant decreases in FSH and in LH values were found, whereas E2 and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) levels were increased in both groups (p<0.05). Also, an increase in Apo A-l levels in group I and decreases in TC and LDL-C levels in both groups were found (p<0.05). However, no statistical difference was found between the levels of two patient groups (p>0.05). CONCLUSION: Cyclic administration of MPA or dydrogesteron, added to the transdermal E2 therapy had similar effects on SHBG, serum lipids and lipoproteins in postmenopausal women.
