Abstract

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common cancers worldwide. HCC occurs predominantly in patients with cirrhosis and chronic viral hepatitis. A 22 years old male patient was admitted gastroenterology service with right upper abdominal swelling, back pain and fatigue persisting for 6 months. Magnetic resonance imaging demostrated a gross liver mass resembling the focal noduler hyperplasia of liver. Viral hepatitis markers, tumor markers and liver-derived serum biochemistries were normal. Through the physical examination and laboratory findings, hypersplenism was established. Ultrasound-guided needle aspiration biopsy of liver was performed twice but histologically differential diagnosis could not be made between malign and benign lesion of the liver. So, partial liver resection and splenectomy were performed. Histological diag¬nosis was reported as well differantiated hepatocellular carcinoma. Here, we reported a case with HCC, diagnosed by liver resection but resembling focal noduler hyperplasia of liver as morphologically.
