Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to adapt the Climate Change Hope Scale (CCHS) developed by Li and Monroe (2018) to Turkish. The research was carried out on three separate study groups consisting of 453 university students. In the linguistic equivalence study, high positive correlations were found between the scores obtained from the Turkish and English forms of the scale. The construct validity of the Turkish form of CCHS was tested by using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and first and second order confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). In the EFA, a structure that coincides with the original three-dimensional form of the scale and explaining 51.37% of the total variance was obtained. In the first-order CFA, it was determined that the threedimensional structure in the original form of the scale is also valid for Turkish culture. As a result of the secondorder CFA, it was ascertained that the hope of preventing climate change can be measured with Personal-sphere will and way, Collective-sphere will and way and Lack of will and way dimensions. Cronbach alpha and composite reliability coefficients were calculated to examine the reliability of the measures collected with CCHS. Considering the number of items in the subscales, it was concluded that the calculated reliability values may provide evidence for the reliability of the measures. The item analysis results revealed that item correlations exceeded the threshold value of .30 for all items in CCHS. These results reflect the Turkish form of the scale produces valid and reliable measures.
