Abstract

Changes in information and communication technologies also present new opportunities and forms of use in many areas. However, there are also problems and limitations that have come up with these developments. The problems discussed under the heading "digital divide" are among the main problems. Especially when it comes to children; differences in parents’ educational levels, gender differences in children, and the socioeconomic level in the environment in which the child is located also affect children's access to technology. The importance of media literacy education in terms of acquiring the knowledge and skills that will be needed in the production and evaluation of information and media content in the media and other information providers is once again revealed here. This article aims to examine the opportunities and forms of access to the Internet and the knowledge and skills of using the Internet for children with different socioeconomic conditions and opportunities. In line with this main purpose, face-to-face questionnaires were conducted with 1453 students who took the media literacy course in 7th grade in the central districts of Ankara and attended the 8th grade in secondary school. The main topics of the questions in this application can be specified as follows: Differences in socioeconomic levels, the relationship between the educational status of parents and children's access to the Internet and their digital knowledge and skill levels, the levels and ways of influencing the Internet access and Internet use skills of children, such as the difference in children's gender the role of school media.
