Abstract

Introduction: In our study, we aimed to evaluate obstetric cases at intensive care unit in terms of disease spectrum, treatment and maternal mortality. Material and Method: 40 patients monitored at Intensive Care Unit between April 2008 and April 2011 are evaluated retrospectively. Disease spectrum, demographic characteristics, undergone treatments, illnesses caught at Intensive Care Unit, duration of hospitalization are completely reported. For prognosis follow of the patients, Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation and Sequential Organ Failure Assessment scores are done by reporting the worst values during the first twenty-four hours. Results: It is found out that 4.6 percent of patients treated at Intensive Care Unit are obstetric patients. In our study, the age rate of 40 patients was about 28.7+6.04 year, gestational week 29.10+6.04. It is observed that the most frequent diagnosis groups are preeclampsia/eclampsia/HELLP(%37.5) and obstetric bleeding. Blood and blood products treatment are performed on 26 patients (65%). It is infered that APACHE II and SOFA scores were high when patients with and without mortality are compared. Maternal Mortality rate is 10%. Conclusion: Preeclampsia/Eclampsia/HELLP and obstetric bleeding are primary causes for the follow-up of critic obstetric patients at Intensive Care Unit. The scoring systems are beneficial assistant systems in the decision of morbidity and mortality of obstetric patients.
