Abstract

Objective: Water is the most consumed substances in nature among out of gas substances. The best method that can be used to destroy microorganisms in water is boiling. In this study, physical, chemical and microbiological changes in the tap water which exposed to variety physical conditions were investigated. Methods: Ten samples of tap water were analyzed in the study. Samples boiled for 30 seconds by using; electric water heater, microwave oven and oven over a flame, the physical and chemical properties and ion contents were analyzed. After boiled waters were stored for 24 hours, the same analysis was repeated. Other samples stored to the shade, under the sun, UVB and UVC lights and into the refrigerator, for 24 hours then physical and chemical properties and ion contents were analyzed. All analysis results compared with normal tap water. Results: In waters boiled by different methods; pH, TDS, conductivity, turbidity and color values have increased. In 24 hours stored waters under the sun, UVB and UVC lights, into the refrigerator pH, TDS, conductivity, turbidity and color values have increased compared to the tap water. There was no bacteriological growth in waters, stored to the shade, under the sun, UVB and UVC light. Three colonies were isolated in samples stored into the refrigerator. Conclusion: Different physical and chemical changes in water vary to boiling device to device. This situation shows; there is no significant healing effect of water boiling method used in water disinfection, in terms of physical and chemical features.
