Abstract

Objective: This study is undertaken to adapt The Hwalek-Sengstock Elder Abuse Screening Test to Turkish. Methods: The sample of the study is composed of 465 volunteered women and men (60+ years) who live alone in their home or with their children across Turkey. Hwalek-Sengstock Elder Abuse Test has 15 items. Total point correlation and inner consistency coefficient (KR 20) are calculated for reliability of the scale. Confirmatory factor analysis is performed to test the theoretical suitability and validity for Turkish context. Results: In this study, The Hwalek-Sengstock Elder Abuse Screening Test has three factors construction as original scale. Inner consistency coefficient was found as 0.814. The highness of the score points indicates a potential increase in the risk of elder abuse. Conclusion: These results show that the Turkish version of The Hwalek-Sengstock Elder Abuse Screening Test may be used as a valid and reliable tool in determining elderly abuse and also for purposes of early diagnosis and in other relevant research. It might be recommended that exploring the validity and reliability of the scale is repeated in different groups of subjects of similar ages and that the scale is used in prevalence studies.

Özet

Amaç: Bu çalışma, Hwalek-Sengstock Yaşlı İstismarı Tarama Testinin geçerlilik ve güvenilirlik bakımından incelenerek Türkçe uyarlamasının yapılması amacı ile yürütülmüştür. Yöntem: Çalışmanın örneklemini Türkiye'nin farklı illerinde kendi evinde veya çocukları ile birlikte yaşayan, araştırmaya katılmaya gönüllü olan 60 ve daha büyük yaştaki 465 kadın ve erkek oluşturmaktadır. Hwalek-Sengstock Yaşlı İstismarı Tarama Testinde 15 madde vardır. Ölçeğin güvenilirliğini değerlendirmek için madde-toplam puan korelasyonu kullanılmış ve iç tutarlılık katsayısı hesaplanmıştır. Ölçeğin Türkiye için kuramsal bilgisinin sınanması ve doğrulanması amacıyla yapı geçerliliği için doğrulayıcı faktör analizi yapılmıştır. Sonuç: Bu çalışmada Hwalek-Sengstock Yaşlı İstismarı Tarama Testi özgün ölçekte olduğu gibi üç faktörlü bir yapı göstermiştir. İç tutarlılık katsayısı 0.814 olarak bulunmuştur. Ölçekten alınan puanın yükselmesi potansiyel yaşlı istismarı riskinin arttığı anlamına gelmektedir. Tartışma: Sonuçlar HwalekSengstock Yaşlı İstismarı Tarama Testi Türkçe formunun, yaşlıların istismara maruz kalma durumlarının belirlenmesi veya erken tanısı için ve başka araştırmalarda geçerli ve güvenilir bir araç olarak kullanılabileceğini göstermiştir. Ölçeğin geçerlilik ve güvenilirlik çalışmasının benzer yaşlardaki farklı özelliklere sahip gruplarda uygulanması ve yaygınlık çalışmalarında kullanılması önerilebilir.
