Abstract

Purpose: Theaim of this study was to evaluate the approaches of nurses working in surgical clinics to postoperative pain. Materials and Methods: The descriptive-cross-sectional study was conducted using face-to-face interviews with 76 nurses working in the surgical clinic of a university hospital and volunteering to participate in the study between March and April 2019. The data were collected using a personal questionnaire containing questions about promotional features. Results: 41 (53.9%) of the nurses were trained on pain and all of the nurses (100%) reported that they performed postoperative pain assessment while accepting that pain management is the nurse's responsibility. They reported that they used facial expression / perception method as a pain assessment method (34.7%), applied analgesia after the physician's evaluation (18.4%) and re-evaluated after the intervention (81.6%). Conclusion: Nurses have insufficient knowledge about pain management and It was observed that they mostly used methods (pharmacological) for their dependent roles in pain treatment. Continuous training of nurses on pain assessment and management will facilitate the control of postoperative pain and positively affect patient outcomes.

Bulgular: Hemşirelerin %53,9’i ağrı konusunda eğitim almış ve hemşirelerin tamamı (%100) ağrı yönetiminin hemşirenin sorumluluğu olduğunu kabul ederken, cerrahi sonrası ağrı değerlendirmesini yaptıklarını bildirmişlerdir.
